Empowering an Informed Electorate

A core tenant in the mission of District 1 is to promote an informed electorate through political education and involvement.  BE Informed is an informational series bringing together subject matter experts to educate and inform area residents about critical public policy issues.

We aim to foster constructive discussions around public policy. We firmly believe that an informed electorate leads to better leadership and decision-making.

Policy then Politics

The foremost objective is to understand the policy. This often involves delving into the history and evolution of the facts and details of the topic, providing a common understanding as the basis for discussion.

Once we understand the foundational policy, we will then facilitate constructive discussion. There will be sufficient time for questions, discussion and even debate – all while maintaining decorum. It is long past time to return to respectful dialogue in our political discourse and in that we intend to lead.

Issues that Matter

The series will seek to develop programs addressing the issues that matter from state and local policy perspectives. Enclosed is an inventory of possible topics the committee is considering:

• School Funding Formulas and Issues
• Political Subdivisions: Who’s Taxing Me and Why
